Clan History
The Cochranes are an old Scottish family dating back to the Ninth Century C.E. Tradition has it that the first Cochrane was a Viking warrior that settled in Renfrewshire near modern Paisley, Scotland. They have spread from there to find homes all over the world. The Cochranes have distinguished themselves as scientists, soldiers, sailors, writers, musicians and in many other fields. We are proud to represent Clan Cochrane in North America and Clan Cochrane and its hereditary Chieftain, the Right Honorable Iain Alexander Douglas Blair Cochrane, the 15th Earl of Dundonald.
